Dear Friend:
By now you’ve heard much about our projects and our mission at the New England Folk Music Archives.
So for a moment, we’d like to talk about you, and how you matter to us.
We want to thank you – the artists, photographers, archivists, social media wizards, teachers, writers, arts executives, music producers, singer-songwriters, radio hosts, folklorists, filmmakers, veterans of hootenannies, and supporters of all things folk.
You are our most important asset at the Archives. What brings such a creative group together? We suspect it all starts with a love of the music.
Think about this. Like the folks at the old 47, we are – together — a contemporary artists’ colony. And during these difficult financial and political times, most of us know what happens to the arts. Our practices and our contributions to cultural awareness are put on society’s back burner. It becomes very difficult for granting institutions to fund projects, and donors must cut back, too.
So we thank you for supporting the New England Folk Music Archives, and for maintaining a wider commitment to the arts in these hard times. For five years now, you have kept us going at the New England Folk Music Archives. We feel your engagement, and we thank you for it.
Please pass the word about our events – join our email list if you aren’t on it and join us in our efforts to expand our collections, study our folk music history, reach into schools and underserved communities, and present new performers all across New England.
In March, the New England Folk Music Archives changes its name to FOLK New England to reflect our expanding vision. FOLK New England’s mission is to document, preserve, interpret and present the ongoing cultural legacy of folk music in all its forms, with emphasis on New England’s contribution to the enrichment of North American life.
Please support FOLK New England. Join us, “Where History Sings”.
Best regards,
Betsy Siggins Schmidt
