Thanks to all who made the University Libraries Annual Fall Reception: An evening with Folk New England: A tribute to Eric von Schmidt, featuring Tom Rush, Chris Smither, Geoff Muldaur, and Caitlin von Schmidt, a huge success on June 7, 2025, at U Mass Amherst.
Caitlin von Schmidt presented a slide show highlighting the many talents and adventures of her Dad. Tom Rush received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Folk New England. Tom was quick to point out he was not quite finished.
Also, Tom Curren was fondly remembered for his Herculean efforts to bring Folk New England to where it is today. Sadly, we lost Tom recently. He was the chair of Folk New England’s Board.
Kathy Neustadt delivered some heartfelt memories of Tom, which brought more than a few tears in the room.
Then the concert, a love fest for Eric. The three artists joined Caitlin on stage to deliver a splendid show of memories, stories, and music. As the concert started, each trading songs, the smiles appeared and stayed throughout the performance. One of several highlights was when Caitlin joined Geoff to sing her father’s songs. Another was when Chris told the story of how he met Eric.
