Folk New England’s Education Outreach program

October 5, 2026 Brian Quinn

Folk New England’s Education Outreach, headed by Karen Kosko, had another successful program.
Kim Moberg put on a lovely program for families at Cambridge Public Library on Saturday, May 9th. She played both classic hits and original compositions, and she brought her own audio equipment and a wonderful, positive presence, which made for a polished, professional performance. Patrons appreciated her voice and song selections, saying they brought back memories and that it was “the perfect way to spend a rainy afternoon.”
One parent of an infant left the program early with tears in her eyes because the music affected her so much. She told me it was funny that “we have to leave early because mommy’s crying, not baby!” Our younger audience members enjoyed it as well; one left an adorable note saying “Your songs like were good singing bells. Next time make one about dragons” and drew both a bell and a dragon, while her younger sister drew Kim playing!

The four classroom teachers at The Graham and Parks School added their feedback (60 students):
Our sessions with Kim Moberg are a wonderful addition to our social studies units on the social change movements and the history of various cultural groups throughout history. Moberg emphasizes the power of words to initiate change and build community through song, which is in line with conversations we have had with students throughout the school year.
We are also in the midst of an innovators unit in which we have explored musical innovators like Louis Armstrong, so Moberg’s inclusion of the song, “What a Wonderful World” was a highlight for our students. Thank you to Kim Moberg for bringing her talent and passion for music into our school. Jocelyn Marshall, Grade 4.
