Folk New England is thrilled to announce that the Board of Directors of The ASCAP Foundation has approved the renewal of a grant to FOLK New England for our “Stories Through Song” program. This is the 4th year that The ASCAP Foundation has provided funding for this program.
This year’s grant is named “Stories Through Song Supported by The ASCAP Foundation in Honor of Joan Baez 2016.” The FOLK New England program, presented in select public schools around Cambridge, will create its curriculum around the music and social activism of Joan Baez.
“Stories Through Song” emphasizes both the history of music and learning about one’s past and community through interviews. Through it the participants gain an experiential introduction to the rich cultural music and folklore that is echoed in American history and which is present in their daily lives. The ASCAP Foundation is dedicated to nurturing the music talent of tomorrow, preserving the legacy of the past and sustaining the creative incentive for today’s creators through a variety of educational, professional, and humanitarian programs and activities which serve the entire music community.
Support for this program is made possible by the ASCAP Foundation Irving Caesar Fund grant
